Psalm 62 - "We Won't Be Shaken"

My first thought when I woke up this morning was, "I must not be praying enough during the day with as much as the Lord wakes me to pray at night." But then I wondered if the one I was woke up to pray for was going through something specific at that particular time? Or was it the Lord needed to see if I would be obedient? Whatever the reason, I did as He asked. I do pray for this one who is going through a difficult time with his physical body. I pray for his family who are worried about him. When I awake praying and then when I finally got up this morning, the song "We Won't Be Shaken" was on my lips.

Whatever will come my way
Through fire or pouring rain
We won't be shaken
No we won't be shaken
Whatever tomorrow brings
Together we'll rise and sing
That we won't be shaken

It takes a strong faith to not "…be shaken." It takes putting our trust in the Lord completely to say the words to this song and then to live them out.  This verse is crucial.  We must be surrendered to Him if we want to trust Him in the way this song says.

You know my every longing
You've heard my every prayer
You've held me in my weakness
Cause you are always there
So I'll stand in full surrender
It's your way and not my own
My mind is set on nothing less
Than you and you alone
I will not be moved oh

Surrender has to become our way of life, day in and day out. We can't just trust Him when things are going good in our life.  We have to trust Him no matter what is going on.  I'm grateful for this reminder today as I continue to deal with this "junk" that was brought to light last week.

Whatever will come my way
Through fire or pouring rain
We won't be shaken
No we won't be shaken
Whatever tomorrow brings
Together we'll rise and sing
That we won't be shaken

I am reminded of the words of Psalm 62….
Truly my soul finds rest in God;
    my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
    he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
How long will you assault me?
    Would all of you throw me down—
    this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
Surely they intend to topple me
    from my lofty place;
    they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
    but in their hearts they curse.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
    my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
    he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
    he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people;
    pour out your hearts to him,
    for God is our refuge.
Surely the lowborn are but a breath,
    the highborn are but a lie.
If weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
    together they are only a breath.
10 Do not trust in extortion
    or put vain hope in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
    do not set your heart on them.
11 One thing God has spoken,
    two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,
12     and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;
and, “You reward everyone
    according to what they have done.”
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for giving me the opportunity to pray for this one during the night. Lord, You didn't give me specifics…just told me to pray for his whole being…physical, spiritual, emotional, mental and financial being. So I did. Father, I am so grateful for the reminder from this song this morning. Thank You for keeping me on my toes so that I don't allow anything to pull my focus from You.  Thank You Jesus for being My Rock. Amen.
