Psalm 91; Deut 31:6, 8; Phil 4:13 - "Word of God Speak"

I was so excited to wake up this morning with "Word of God Speak" in my heart.  Immediately as the words came from my mouth I heard the Lord say, "Psalm 91."  Woo hoo!!!!

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”
Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.
These are encouraging words!  I love how Matthew Henry explains this passage…

The spiritual life is protected by Divine grace from the temptations of Satan, which are as the snares of the fowler, and from the contagion of sin, which is a noisome pestilence. Great security is promised to believers in the midst of danger. Wisdom shall keep them from being afraid without cause, and faith shall keep them from being unduly afraid. Whatever is done, our heavenly Father's will is done; and we have no reason to fear. God's people shall see, not only God's promises fulfilled, but his threatenings. Whatever happens, nothing shall hurt the believer; though trouble and affliction befal, it shall come, not for his hurt, but for good, though for the present it be not joyous but grievous. Those who rightly know God, will set their love upon him. They by prayer constantly call upon him. His promise is, that he will in due time deliver the believer out of trouble, and in the mean time be with him in trouble. The Lord will manage all his worldly concerns, and preserve his life on earth, so long as it shall be good for him.

We don't have to fear the things that come our way on this earth.  The Lord is here to protect us.  That doesn't mean He won't allow us to go through trials but it does mean He will help us through them.  He promises us to never leave us no matter what (Deut 31:6).  He promises His strength (Phil 4:13).  He promises to go before us (Deut 31:8).  Most of all He promises us eternity with Him when we follow Him (John 3:16).  Each and every promise He gives is a blessing to those who seek Him, accept Him, follow Him and live for Him.

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for the words of encouragement from Psalm 91 this morning.  Thank You for the reminder that You are always here for me.  Lord, I pray for Doc to have a physical healing from this bug that has ahold of his body.  I pray for restoration of health within him.  Lord, not just for him but for all of the so many people who are struggling with it I pray for a physical touch to be upon them.  Lord, I also pray protection over me so that I don't get it.  But Lord if it is part of the plan for me to have it then I pray for You to be glorified through it.  Father, this morning my physical body feels like it could be one of "those days" where it doesn't want to function.  Give me wisdom.  Lord, You know the things I need to accomplish over these next few days and I pray for direction on when and how to get them accomplished.  If today needs to be a "down day," then lead me through it.  Whatever is ahead, I know You are before me.    Lord, just as this scripture begins…I am dwelling in Your shelter and resting in Your shadow.  You are the One I trust.  Thank You Jesus for being My Refuge and My Fortress.  Amen.
