Psalm 65:11 - Blessings on the New Year

I love this verse of Psalm 65!  When I saw it, I knew I needed to read the entire chapter to get the bigger picture.

Psalm 65 New King James Version (NKJV)

Praise to God for His Salvation and Providence

65 Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion;
And to You the vow shall be performed.
O You who hear prayer,
To You all flesh will come.
Iniquities prevail against me;
As for our transgressions,
You will provide atonement for them.
Blessed is the man You choose,
And cause to approach You,
That he may dwell in Your courts.
We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
Of Your holy temple.
By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us,
O God of our salvation,
You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth,
And of the far-off seas;
Who established the mountains by His strength,
Being clothed with power;
You who still the noise of the seas,
The noise of their waves,
And the tumult of the peoples.
They also who dwell in the farthest parts are afraid of Your signs;
You make the outgoings of the morning and evening rejoice.
You visit the earth and water it,
You greatly enrich it;
The river of God is full of water;
You provide their grain,
For so You have prepared it.
10 You water its ridges abundantly,
You settle its furrows;
You make it soft with showers,
You bless its growth.
11 You crown the year with Your goodness,
And Your paths drip with abundance.
12 They drop on the pastures of the wilderness,
And the little hills rejoice on every side.
13 The pastures are clothed with flocks;
The valleys also are covered with grain;
They shout for joy, they also sing.

Matthew Henry writes:

"In this psalm we are directed to give to God the glory of his power and goodness, which appear, I. In the kingdom of grace (v. 1), hearing prayer (v. 2), pardoning sin (v. 3), satisfying the souls of the people (v. 4), protecting and supporting them (v. 5). II. In the kingdom of Providence, fixing the mountains (v. 6), calming the sea (v. 7), preserving the regular succession of day and night (v. 8), and making the earth fruitful (v. 9-13). These are blessings we are all indebted to God for, and therefore we may easily accommodate this psalm to ourselves in singing it."

Woo hoo!  Yes, Lord, bless me!  I will accept all of the blessings the Lord gives me.  I think this is the perfect verse to dwell on for the new year.  Sometimes the Lord blesses us with things that may not appear as blessings yet at the end of the day we can look back and see the blessings.  Woo hoo!  Too many times I think we dwell on what most would consider negatives when in fact they will turn into positives when we allow the Lord to work through them.

Matthew Henry continues with:  "Let all these common gifts of the divine bounty, which we yearly and daily partake of, increase our love to God as the best of beings, and engage us to glorify him with our bodies, which he thus provides so well for."  Amen!  The more we allow the Lord to have total control, the closer we will be in our relationship with Him.  The more time we spend in His Presence, the more we will understand exactly what He wants of us.

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for the blessings You give to me.  Thank You for the way You turn negative situations into positive ones.  Thank You for loving me enough to give me opportunities to be Your servant.  Lord, a new year has come.  I pray for more of You and less of me.  I pray I live in Your Presence each and every day.  I pray for more opportunities to be Your servant.  Thank You Jesus for being My Blesser!  Amen.
