Psalm 37:4; Psalm 40 - "So Good To Me"

I love this saying and especially think the pict is a cute one!  So many people continue to look for "things" to make them happy when Jesus is all we need.  He is the One who knows what we need to live life.  He is the One who has the authority over our life when we surrender to Him.  He is the One who wants to give us the desires of our hearts.  I love Psalm  37:4, Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.  When we live for Him, He will bless us.  Every morning I ask Him to give me more of Him and less of me.  Why?  Because in order to do His will I need my will aligned with Him.  In order to know the desires of His heart, I must be fully surrendered to Him.  I love the words in Psalm 40 which the song "So Good To Me" that Cory Asbury sings was based on.

Psalm 40

I waited patiently for the Lord;
    he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
    out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
    and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth,
    a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
    and put their trust in him.
Blessed is the one
    who trusts in the Lord,
who does not look to the proud,
    to those who turn aside to false gods.
Many, Lord my God,
    are the wonders you have done,
    the things you planned for us.
None can compare with you;
    were I to speak and tell of your deeds,
    they would be too many to declare.
Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—
    but my ears you have opened—
    burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.
Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—
    it is written about me in the scroll.
I desire to do your will, my God;
    your law is within my heart.”
I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly;
    I do not seal my lips, Lord,
    as you know.
10 I do not hide your righteousness in my heart;
    I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help.
I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness
    from the great assembly.
11 Do not withhold your mercy from me, Lord;
    may your love and faithfulness always protect me.
12 For troubles without number surround me;
    my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.
They are more than the hairs of my head,
    and my heart fails within me.
13 Be pleased to save me, Lord;
    come quickly, Lord, to help me.
14 May all who want to take my life
    be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
    be turned back in disgrace.
15 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
    be appalled at their own shame.
16 But may all who seek you
    rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
    “The Lord is great!”
17 But as for me, I am poor and needy;
    may the Lord think of me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
    you are my God, do not delay.

It is only because of the Lord that I am where I am today.  If I wouldn't have accepted Him, surrendered to Him, and allowed Him total access to my life, I would be lost.  It is only through Him that I am able to sing and mean, "I’ve got love, joy, peace and righteousness in the Holy Spirit…"  Woo hoo!  It is only through Him that I can say and mean, "I desire to do your will, my God…" (Psalm 40:8)  It is only through Him that I am married to a godly man who lives to serve the Lord each and every day.  It is only through Him that I have people who are prayer warriors in my life that pray for me through tough days.  It is only through Him that I have His strength to do as He desires.

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for being the One I love…the One I serve…the One I am surrendered to.  I praise You Father for the way You care for me.  I praise You for the way You give me opportunities to be You to others.  Yesterday was full of such opportunities…the man in the store with the quart of milk who didn't have cash only the EBT card that wouldn't work; the couple who needed some encouragement just as I walked into their home; the family who were blessed with food as they mourn the loss of their loved one; the Momma who was blessed with dinner for her family as she is in physical pain…I hope there were more that were blessed throughout my day!  Father, the only way I can be a blessing for You is to be totally surrendered to You.  I praise Your Holy Name for giving me the privilege to serve.  You are so awesome!  Thank You Jesus for being the One In My Life.  Amen.
