Isaiah 54 - "Hills and Valleys"

Today I am thankful for a good report at the dermatologist yesterday. I am thankful for the way God gives medical personnel wisdom and compassion. After the fact of there not being anything wrong I kicked myself for spending the money to go to the doctor. But at least I have peace of mind there is nothing to worry about with it. I am thankful for that knowledge. God is so good. I am reminded He is good on the 'good' days and He is good on the 'tough' days. He is good on the mountaintop and He is good in the valley. His love is with us 24/7. We need to show Him our love at all time. I was reading in Isaiah 54 about how God loves us through 'tough' days. He is there to pour His love, mercy, and grace down upon us without leaving us. His love is unconditional. The book of Isaiah is full of despair with how the people rebelled against God but it is also full of promises of God's compassion for all. Matthew Henry wrote of Isaiah 54: Mountains have been shaken and removed, but the promises of God never were broken by any event. Praise His Holy Name for this knowledge. God's promises are just that. Promises. He never breaks His promises. That is another reason to praise Him. When we fall short of what He desires of us, He is ready to love us back. When we miss an opportunity He puts before us, He is ready to give us more opportunities. Nothing surprises God. He already knows the outcome of the day ahead. I am reminded this morning of a song "Hills and Valleys" Tauren Wells sings.

No matter what I have, Your grace is enough
No matter where I am, I'm standing in Your love
On the mountains, I will bow my life
To the One who set me there
In the valley, I will lift my eyes
To the One who sees me there

May Your peace come down upon them in a mighty way. My Momma; my sisters Linda, Sally, and Mary; my brother Richard; Ben and Colleen; Pete and Delores; Steve; Cait; Rhonda; Mike; Norma Hall; Sharon Sebolt and her parents; Cyndi; some young ladies with anxiety; a young man out of rehab who needs strength in his daily walk; Mary Lilley; a husband/father separated from his wife; Brooklyn; Kristen Batten; Amber; families in turmoil; Gay and Doug; Rick; Serena and her husband; and many others. I also pray healing prayers over many who are dealing with 'c' and/or going through treatments...Chrissy's cousin; Shirley Jones; Preacher Bill Watts; Cait's friend with leukemia; my pastor friend with daily chemo; Little Ivy; Little Judson; a young girl in our community; a lady whose breast cancer has returned; a lady diagnosed with stage two breast cancer; a lady diagnosed with throat cancer; my friend with pancreatic cancer; Sue Danhoff's husband Harv; and a young lady awaiting cancer testing. I pray for: the Long Family, Becky, and Russ. Thank You for continued healing for: Pastor Tommy and Pam, Betty, and Baby Henry. I pray for a father with a prodigal daughter to know You have not left him. I continue to pray for healing and strength for Darryle and his family. I pray for emotional healing for a couple contemplating divorce. Lord, once again I pray today will be the day the MS tingling dissipates. Thank You for being My Promise Keeper! Amen.

Psalm 37 - "Love Me Like I Am"

Today I am grateful for the way God encourages me. My dermatologist appointment this afternoon causes anticipation with the unknown. I have tried to forget about it but it is always on my mind. Yesterday morning God gave me Sunday's sermon. It was one of those times where my fingers could not type fast enough as He gave it to me. It is definitely one of my favorite times of crafting a sermon when He does it like that. My devotions yesterday were from Psalm 37 which is where the sermon derived from. This Psalm is full of promises. Actually, there are twenty-five promises found in this Scripture. Verse five is one I'm holding onto tightly today. It reads in The Passion TranslationGive God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way, you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly! When we trust God and allow Him to be Who He desires to be in our life, we will realize the blessings He has for us. Blessings from God are not always what the world sees as blessings. They are not always a financial blessing but come in different forms. Yesterday was a blessing for me in the way God gave me the sermon He desires for Sunday, having a brisk walk in the morning, and a down time watching movies in the afternoon. Other than the walk I was not expecting any of those blessings yet God gave them to me. Verse four of this Scripture promises us when we live in relationship with Him, He will bless us with the desires of our heart. Sometimes we do not even realize what we desire yet He knows and provides. He has already started my day off today with blessing me once again through Psalm 37. Woo hoo! I am thankful for Who He is in my life and for the way He never gives up on me. When I do something I shouldn't or miss doing something He desires of me, He is there to love me through it. I am reminded this morning of a song King & Country sings called "Love Me Like I Am"...

It's amazing that You can
Love me like I am
And even when I can't
You still love me as I am
Oh, I don't know how You do it
And I know I put You through it
Yeah, it's amazing that You can
Love me like I

Praise His Holy Name for loving me no matter what! Woo hoo! He is such a good Father! cDear Jesus, Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones ahead today! Thank You for loving me no matter what! Thank You for blessing me yesterday in the way You gave me the sermon You desire for Sunday, having a brisk walk in the morning, and a down time watching movies in the afternoon! Thank You for another day of life ahead! May I be who You desire me to be. Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. Thank You for going before me and giving me peace with my dermatologist appointment this afternoon! I pray Your peace over many going through difficult days. Thank You for being My Great Blesser! Amen.

Psalm 37 - "Ain't Nobody"

Today I am thankful for daydreams. When I was a little girl living on the farm, I would lay in the grass and watch the planes from the little airport a couple miles from the house. I thought about how cool it would be to fly and was determined to do so someday. I have never flown in one of the smaller airplanes but sure have flown in a lot of jets over the years. Another childhood daydream was I wanted six children. Three boys and three girls. I remember even having names picked out for them. Sometimes God grants our dreams in different ways than we can imagine. This daydream did come true just not in the typical sense. I have two biological boys and a step-son. Each of them have lovely ladies so I did receive my three boys and three girls. Another childhood daydream was to see the ocean. There was one time when I was in grade school I spent less than an hour at Myrtle Beach but that was it. I dreamt of being able to walk on the beach, pick up shells, swim in the ocean, etc. Last night walking on the beach I thought about how this is my normal life now. Wow, God! I was reminded of the words of David in Psalm 37. This Psalm tells us as we trust God and live in fellowship with Him we will live a life of blessings. That does not mean there will not be trying times ahead. It means the more we live for Him the more we will realize how to get through such times. Matthew Henry writes of this Psalm:

What is the desire of the heart of a good man? It is this, to know, and love, and serve God. Commit thy way unto the Lord; roll thy way upon the Lord, so the margin reads it. Cast thy burden upon the Lord, the burden of thy care. We must roll it off ourselves, not afflict and perplex ourselves with thoughts about future events, but refer them to God. By prayer spread thy case and all thy cares before the Lord, and trust in him. We must do our duty, and then leave the event with God. The promise is very sweet: He shall bring that to pass, whatever it is, which thou has committed to him.

There is a key tidbit in what Henry writes and that is when we are going through trying times we need to give such times to God and leave it with Him. We need to not continue to fret over things but instead allow God to bathe us in His peace. Sometimes that is easier said than done yet the more we put it into practice the easier it will be to accomplish. Verse thirty-nine in The Passion Translation reads: But the Lord will be the Savior of all who love him. Even in their time of trouble, God will live in them as strength. Praise His Holy Name for the promises found in God's Word! This morning I am reminded of a song Cody Carnes sings called "Ain't Nobody" and blessed with the knowledge that God's love is perfect. This song reminds me of yesterday's sermon about having freedom in Him.

Tell me who could give me this freedom
Tell me who could get me this far
Ain't nobody love me like Jesus
And I know, I know nobody could

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones ahead today! Thank You for the peace I had yesterday morning with all going on at church with people missing, technology issues, etc.! Thank You for the daydreams You have fulfilled over the years and the ones yet to be fulfilled! Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May You be heard/seen through my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts in a mighty way. I pray Your strength over many going through difficult days. I pray for emotional healing for a couple contemplating getting divorced. Lord, once again I pray today will be the day the MS tingling dissipates. Thank You for being My Daydream Filler! Amen.

Psalm 118:24 - "Keep Me In The Moment"

Today I am thankful for the blessings of yesterday. God watched over me to travel to Charleston for a gathering of pastors that blessed me in abundance. Fellowship with other pastors fills my soul. The conversation and food were fabulous! Afterward He blessed me with a birthday gift I was going to buy being on sale along with some great prices on groceries at Aldi. I do not like to travel alone but He reminded me He was right there with me. After returning home He blessed me with celebrating one of my little guys birthday. Getting hugs from little Nick is always a blessing but last night when he opened his present the hug I received was awesome. As I fell asleep last night I had a smile on my face. God is so, so good. He loves me in abundance and for that I am grateful. The day ahead is one I always look forward to with gathering with my church family. There are several going to be out today due to illness so we will be few but I cannot allow that to disappoint me. God will encourage my spirit and for that I am grateful. He will keep my focus on the positives of life and not allow the enemy to get to me through the negatives. The day ahead is a gift. It is up to me on how I unwrap it. I can choose to live as it is my last day on earth or not. I pray all I do pleases and glorifies God. Nothing that happens today will be a surprise to Him. That knowledge enables me to get through each and every day. A song Jeremy Camp sings called "Keep Me In The Moment" is on my mind this morning...

Singing, oh Lord keep me in the moment
Help me live with my eyes wide open
'Cause I don't wanna miss what You have for me (What You have for me)
Singing, oh Lord show me what matters

Yes! The way I can live in this manner is by rejoicing through each and every day no matter what comes before me. Woo hoo!

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones ahead today! Thank You for Pastors Bill and Isa opening their home for a great time of food and fellowship and for the safe travels! Thank You for the celebration with Nick's birthday! Thank You for another day of life ahead! I pray for all pastors, including myself, to preach what You have given us today. Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May You be seen/heard through my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts in a mighty way today. I pray Your peace over many going through difficult days. I pray for emotional healing for a couple contemplating getting divorced. Lord, once again I pray today will be the day the MS tingling dissipates. Thank You for being My Day Ahead! Amen.

Colossians 3:12-15 - "Healing Hand of God"

Today I am thankful for a change of attitude. I had a situation yesterday that a few years ago I would have been very angry over. It was one that I would have been crabby over for a long time. My first reaction was to be mad but it didn't last long. I am grateful God has showed me things I have no control over are just that. When something happens, it happens. I do not need to fret over the reason why it happened or blame someone for such things. Instead I need to go on with life. It does not do anyone, including myself, any good to get upset over things out of my control. This morning I am reminded of Paul's words in Colossians 3:12-15. It reads in the New International VersionTherefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Yes! When we 'wear' the attributes of God, we will be blessed with His peace no matter what happens in life. We also need to adhere to Paul's last words in this Scripture and be thankful. We need to be thankful when life goes as we desire and we need to be thankful when it does not. Everything that happens in life is an opportunity for growth in our spiritual walk. Our faith can and will go deeper when we walk in obedience to God's will. His desire is for us to live in His peace no matter what. I am reminded of a song Jeremy Camp sings called "Healing Hand of God"...

I have seen
The healing hand of God
Reaching out and mending broken hearts
Taste and see the fullness of His peace
And hold on to what's being held out
The healing hand of God

Yes! He wants to heal us of things that may seem so small yet impact our lives greatly such as a bad attitude when life doesn't go as we desire. He wants us to think before we speak and be loving to all. He wants us to forgive as He forgives us with an unconditional love. cDear Jesus, Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones ahead today! Thank You for going before me as I drive to Charleston! I pray not only for safety on the roads but also Your companionship to be strong as I am alone. Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May You shine brightly through my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts. I pray Your peace over many going through 'tough' days. I pray for emotional healing for a couple contemplating getting divorced. Lord, once again I pray today will be the day the MS tingling dissipates. Thank You for being My Peace! Amen.

Proverbs 27:9 - "Friend For Life"

This morning i am thankful for laughter with friends. Yesterday afternoon Marion and I enjoyed laughing as we played bingo with her friends. I love to see her smile and enjoy life in the midst of the pain she is enduring. Some days are hard with her dementia with repeating things over again to her questions but I am so thankful for her friendship. Last night gathering with friends for a Friendsgiving Dinner was full of laughter. We talked, ate a wonderful dinner, danced, sang along with the oldies, and most of all laughed. When Laurie began the Women Helping Women group, I found my place there. I have met so many ladies who I can truly call my friends. I meet new ones all the time since we all can't make every meeting. Thursday nights have become one of my favorite times of the week. I am thankful for the Bible study I participated in under Sue Gresham, the fun craft time I helped with last spring, the accomplishment of some of the ladies helping pack Samaritan's Purse shoeboxes, etc. I know if I have an issue any of these ladies would be right there for me. What a blessing they are to me! I gave each one a 'I am thankful for you!' leaf cut-out last night. There were a couple that I met for the first time last night but I am still thankful for them because they are part of this group. The Scripture I put on the cut-out speaks volumes to me. Proverbs 27:9 reads in The Passion TranslationSweet friendships  refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy, for good friends are like the anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God’s presence. Matthew Henry writes of this verse:

A good reason given why we should thus value true friendship and be choice of it. Because of the pleasure of it. There is a great deal of sweetness in conversing and consulting with a cordial friend. It is like ointment and perfume, which are very grateful to the smell, and exhilarate the spirits. It rejoices the heart; the burden of care is made lighter by unbosoming ourselves to our friend, and it is a great satisfaction to us to have his sentiments concerning our affairs.

I value all of my friends. Time spent together is precious to me. I shared with a friend yesterday about how much I appreciate them listening to me. I know they probably get tired of hearing about my life yet they never turn me away. I also shared how much I appreciate their guidance when I need direction. God is so good to put people in our life that we need so much. I pray I will be a good friend to all in my tribe. I want to be the friend described in a song Margaret Becker sings called "Friend For Life"...

I want to be the one to tell you, to tell it like it is
To let you know the God of love will never leave your side
I want to be the one to lead you with everything I am
And see the day when you let Him in and make a friend for life

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for a fun night last night with friends! Thank You for Laurie who started the Women Helping Women group, for all the ladies who I have met through it, and for MaryBeth hosting last night's event! Thank You for laughter and fellowship! I pray for each one who was there last night to have a smile on their face today as they think about it. Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May people see/hear You through my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts today. I pray Your peace over many going through difficult days. My Momma; my sisters Linda, Sally, and Mary; my brother Richard; Ben and Colleen; Pete and Delores; Steve; Cait; Rhonda; Mike; Norma Hall; Sharon Sebolt and her parents; some young ladies with anxiety; a young man out of rehab who needs strength in his daily walk; Mary Lilley; a husband/father separated from his wife; Brooklyn; Kristen Batten; Amber; families in turmoil; Gay and Doug; Rick; Serena and her husband; and many others. Thank You for continued healing for: Pastor Tommy and Pam, and Betty. I pray for a father with a prodigal daughter to know You have not left him. I continue to pray for healing and strength for Darryle and his family. I pray for emotional healing for a couple contemplating getting divorced. Thank You for Baby Henry and Cyndi being discharged from the hospital! Lord, may today be the day when the MS tingling dissipates. Thank You for being My Friend Provider! Amen.

Psalm 113:1-3 - "Good Morning Mercy"

Today I am thankful for the gift of sight. Yesterday as I finished the last Samaritan Purse shoeboxes I thought about how many children will open shoeboxes and see all the gifts packed for them. I also thought about those children who are blind and can't see their gifts. They will touch them and have people tell them what is in their boxes but will never be able to see the items. Years ago I went through a couple weeks with the MS without sight, it was scary wondering if it would return. Every time MS flares up it usually takes something permanently with it. Things are not normally ever the same. Thankfully my sight was returned in its fullness and for that I am grateful. Last night tt was so cloudy it did not appear there would be a sunset to see yet for a few minutes it did show through. It was not as spectacular as some but it reminded me God blesses me in abundance. I need to get better at praising Him for all things. I need to praise Him when things turn out as I think they will and when they do not. I need to praise Him for 'little' gifts such as a couple minutes of the sunset and for 'big' gifts when the sunset is spectacular. I need to praise Him when storms are headed our way and then take a turn. Oh how I pray for all in the path of Hurricane Nicole to find a safe place to be. I pray for those in Florida who are still cleaning up from Hurricane Ian to lean into God's strength to not just get through these tough days but to find reasons to praise God in the process. I need to praise God as we wait on what path of the storm will take. I praise Him for my neighbor Chris who is always ready to answer my questions and calm my spirit in times like this. I praise Him for the safety He will provide as I travel in the rain to see Marion today. I pray for those who have or will be effected by hurricanes this season but I also praise Him for a second year of not having to evacuate. I praise Him for protection if the tornadoes occur today as predicted. I praise Him for another day of life ahead. Jason Crabb sings a song called "Good Morning Mercy" that reminds me how grateful I am for God's love, grace, and mercy.

Good morning, mercy
You call me worthy
Feels like the sun shining on my face
Living's good this side of grace
I feel it working
Goodbye to the hurting
You woke me up, put me on my way
Hallelujah, it's a brand new day
Good morning, mercy

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for another day of life with Your love, grace, and mercy! Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones ahead today! Thank You for safety on the roads as I travel to see Marion!
