Joshua 23:9-11 - "You Will Be Found"

Some days are so overwhelming and some days are so rewarding. Yesterday was both and I am so thankful God was there every step of the way. He was with us when we received the call the ambulance came early and we weren't at the facility yet. He was with us throughout the day when we had to wait at the doctor's office, as we drove through crazy traffic, etc. He also blessed us in abundance when a very quick answer to prayer when the doctor said Ms Paula was going to have surgery but she would have to go home overnight. I asked the doctor if she could be admitted so she would not have to go through the ambulance ride back home. He told me 'it doesn't usually work that way because there is not rooms available.' I reiterated my facts and he agreed to check. I prayed and not ten minutes later she had a room. The doctoer and the nurses were amazed. They said it 'never happens' like that. I told them it was an answer to prayer and the doctor's response was, 'You must have an in with the big man upstairs.' I chuckled and said I was a pastor but wished I would have had more time to talk to him about God. He does not always answer our prayers that quickly nor is His answer always what we desire. Yesterday He did and I praised Him for it. Not only did He provide a room but it was the exact same room she was in last week. I truly believe that was conformation from Him that He has everything taken care of. We just need to trust Him. I am so thankful I rearranged my schedule to be with them yesterday to advocate for her. I am thankful Doug was there to talk with Jack. "You Will Be Found" was on my mind throughout the day yesterday and again this morning. Ms. Paula is facing an uphill battle with her injury. She has a lot of work and pain to go through to walk again. I am thankful for her determination and the smile she keeps on her face that portrays Jesus. I also am thankful for the way she shares Jesus with those caring for her.

Even when the dark comes crashing through
When you need a friend to carry you
And when you're broken on the ground
You will be found
So let the sun come streaming in
'Cause you'll reach up and you'll rise again
Lift your head and look around
You will be found

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones in the day ahead! Thank You for continuing to be with Jack and Paula! I pray for the surgeon to have Your wisdom today. Thank You for Doug being there to talk with Jack yesterday! When I climbed into bed last night, I was so tired and I thank You for the good night's rest. Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May people see/hear You through my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts. Ephesians 3 - "You Will Be Found"

Last night as I crafted Sunday's sermon I fell deeper in love with God. Paul's words in Ephesians  3 bless me in abundance. Sometimes when I read his writing I feel like he is right here with me speaking words of encouragement over me. He wrote in verse seventeen of the way God's love will be more a part of us as we stand in our faith. I love the way he describes our life. ...and the resting place of His love will become the very source and root of your life. These words are such an encouragement in so many ways. First of all, it amazes me Paul was in prison when he wrote these words. He was in a 'low' time in his life yet he chose to encourage others. There is a lesson to be learned here. Secondly, Paul shows the importance of being in relationship with God. We are told growing up that God loves us. We can experience His love but until we realize the importance of being in relationship with Him we will not fully realize it. A relationship with God takes work. We must remember communication with Him needs to be a two-way street. We also must remember in order to realize His love we must accept it. We must work to not just develop a relationship with Him but to continue it. It takes nurturing for anything to grow including relationships. I wrote this last night:

Maybe you can remember a time when you wanted to develop a love relationship with a special person. What did you do? You spent time together, you talked and listened, you shared thoughts and activities, hopes and dreams, and frustrations and desires. Love developed in the relationship.

This is what is needed in any relationship. We must nurture it if we want it to grow. We must work at it if we want it to succeed. We must have the desire in our heart to have God's love flow from us before it will. We must be willing to allow Him to love us before we can love others. Sometimes we doubt God's love when we find ourselves in 'tough' times but He never stops loving us. Instead His love deepens in our spirit as we press into Him. During the night and again this morning a song Natalie Grant sings called "You Will Be Found" is on my mind. It reminds me when life is 'tough' God's love is there to soothe all the hurts.

Even when the dark comes crashing through
When you need a friend to carry you
And when you're broken on the ground
You will be found

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones ahead today! Thank You for continuing to be with Jack and Paula during these 'tough' days! Thank You for Doug being with them yesterday! I pray they will receive answers today. Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May people see/hear You through my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts. I pray Your love over many going through 'tough' days. My sisters Linda, Sally, and Mary; my brother Richard; Ben and Colleen; Pete and Delores; Steve; Cait; Rhonda; Mike; Norma Hall; Jack and Paula; Sharon Sebolt and her parents; some young ladies with anxiety; a young man out of rehab; Mary Lilley; a husband/father separated from his wife; Brooklyn; Kristen Batten; April; families in turmoil; Gay and Doug; Sherry; and many others. I also pray healing prayers over many dealing with ‘c’ and/or going through treatments…Audrey; Chrissy’s cousin; Shirley Jones; Little Ivy; Little Judson; Little Roselynn; a young girl in our community; a lady whose breast cancer has returned; a lady diagnosed with stage two breast cancer; a lady diagnosed with throat cancer; Mr Mullett; Marybeth's friend; David; and Damon. I pray for: Rebecca as she awaits surgery; Dan as he awaits biopsy results; the Long family; Becky; Russ; and a couple having marital issues. Thank You for continued healing for Pastor Tommy and Pam and for Dee's granddaughter! I pray special blessings of strength and peace over Leslie and her family. Thank You for being My Love! Amen.

Psalm 18 - "Gratitude"

Life can be frustrating to the point one is in tears and ready to give up. When you can't figure out what to do next and confused, it is overwhelming. I struggle to see people in such situations but especially those who are elderly. I remember my Momma saying 'I just need someone to tell me what to do' when faced with some overwhelming times. Last night as I pulled on her sweater I felt her hug. The sweater has her scent and that made me happy. I have several pictures of her and I together with her wearing it so it brings back good memories. I remember her Momma Grandma Helmick always having an apron on whether she was in the kitchen or quilting. My Momma had a sweater on a lot in her last months due to being cold with her low blood count. Sometimes she had it on even when wrapped up in her blanket. When life gets overwhelming for me, I want to lay down and cover up with my blankie. It does not matter if it's cold or not, my blankie is my security. Psalm 18:2 reads in the New Living TestamentThe LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. In the Voice first one begins the chapter with the knowledge God is the source of my power. When my tank needs refueled, God is the One to do it. When I need to feel secure, He provides a sense of security. When I need to have wisdom and/or clarity, He provides. When I feel like I cannot go another step, He is there to give physical strength. I am so thankful God brought Doug into my life at this particular time with my Momma leaving this earth. He is such a comfort but most especially he blesses me through the prayers he offers up throughout the day. I am thankful for the way we work so well together whether it be visiting people, preparing meals, or planning for the day ahead. God provided my place of safety here on earth through Doug. Verse forty-nine of Psalm 18 reads in The Passion TranslationSo I thank you, Yahweh, with my praises I will sing my song to the highest God, so all among the nations will hear me. Praising God has been in the forefront of my mind these last few weeks. I will praise Him today no matter what is ahead because I know praising Him takes the focus off anything negative and onto Him. Woo hoo! Once again I have Brandon Lake's song "Gratitude" going through my mind...

So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
'Cause all that I have is a
Hallelujah, hallelujah
And I know it's not much
But I've nothing else fit for a king
Except for a heart singing
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones ahead today! Thank You for going before us with all we do today! Thank You for Doug going with Jack and Paula today! I pray for wisdom for the doctors. Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May people see/hear You through my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts. I pray those going through difficult days will find reason to praise You today. Thank You for being My Security Blankie! Amen.

Psalm 79 - "The Way (New Horizons)"

The Lord directed me to Psalm 79 this morning. This Psalm is an example for all to follow when dealing with the 'junk' of life. It begins with a lament or a complaint followed by prayer and finally a praise. That is the cycle that empowers us to be who God desires of us. Instead of wallowing in misery we need to voice our concerns. As we do this God will bring to light enlightenment with His wisdom on what to do. He takes us to the place in the situation where we can realize praying is the answer. One thing we must remember with prayer is it is two-way communication. We must not only pour our heart out to God but we also need to be quiet and listen to Him. We must be willing to change our ways when He tells us. Our minds need to be open to what He tells us if we want to be successful in the situation we have before us. After He shares with us we must be willing to go forward in the manner given. We must be willing to walk through open doors and accept closed doors instead of manipulating circumstances. The result of such action is praise. When I took this picture Saturday at the beach, I thought many people would not see the meaning in it as I do. The number three represents God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God the Father directs me as He loves me. Jesus the Son is there for me as He loves me. The Holy Spirit empowers me as He loves me. I strive to live in communion with all three 24/7. I was thinking this morning about how all three persons are mentioned in the Great Commission that God laid upon my heart for our church. Matthew 29:19 tells us we are to baptize in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. This shows not only the way they are distinct people but the importance of all three. Every time I see something in threes it reminds me of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is crucial for all to live with all three aspects of God. I am reminded this morning of a song Pat Barrett sings called "The Way (New Horizons)" and feeling blessed. God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all the way, the truth, the life as this song says. They are all we need in life. I strive to help people to understand the concept of how we live on this earth determines where we live for eternity. I don't want to see anyone go to hell. I desire to see all come into relationship with Jesus.

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the blessings of yesterday and the ones ahead today! Thank You for my husband Doug who loves me well! Thank You for the opportunities You put before me to love with Your love. Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May You ooze out of my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts. I pray Your peace over many going through difficult days. I pray for: Rebecca as she awaits surgery; Dan as he awaits biopsy results; Sue with the loss of her husband; the Long family; Becky; Russ; and a couple having marital issues. Thank You for continued healing for Pastor Tommy and Pam and for Dee's granddaughter! I pray special blessings of strength and peace over Leslie and her family. Thank You for being My Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Amen.

Psalm 9:1-2 - "Gratitude"

Before I went to sleep, during the night, and again this morning I prayed for pastors. I prayed specifically for Nazarene pastors blessed with being at General Assembly. I remember being in the Sunday morning service in past Assemblies with thousands gathered. What a blessing it is to gather at such events. I also prayed specifically for those filling pulpits around the world so the pastor can be at Assembly. I prayed not only for the church business happening at Assembly but for the spiritual business that needs to happen. I prayed for pastors to have their tank filled so they can not only minister to their congregation when they return home but they can minister to those of us who were not able to attend Assembly. I am so thankful for the Church of the Nazarene. I am one blessed pastor to have the privilege to stand upon the doctrine of holiness and proclaim it boldly. Sometimes I feel like I am living a dream. As a little girl I wanted to go to the beach. Now here I am living on an island being the hands and feet of Jesus. Yesterday when we went to Hunting Island I looked out into the water and was so blessed. When we went to see the sunset last night, I once again was in awe of where God has me in life. Doug is such a blessing to me. He was promised to me a year before we connected and we both knew from the first hug we are where we are to be. Woo hoo, God! Brandon Lake's song "Gratitude" is on my mind this morning. This is exactly how I feel. The first couple verses of Psalm 9 are on my heart this morning as I praise God for Who He is in my life.

So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
'Cause all that I have is a
Hallelujah, hallelujah
And I know it's not much
But I've nothing else fit for a king
Except for a heart singing
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the work Doug and I accomplished at the church yesterday and for the time to 'stop and smell the roses' in the afternoon and evening! Thank You for the privilege many of my fellow pastors have to be at General Assembly! I pray blessings over them as they worship together. I pray healing over my dear friend Judy who experienced medical issues while there. May her and Jay feel an abundance of Your peace. I pray that peace over many going through difficult days. Cleanse me so You can fill me. May I preach boldly what You have given me to share today. May You flow out of my words, actions, attitude, and thoughts throughout this day. Thank You for being My Praise Maker! Amen.

Psalm 113 - "Goodness of God"

I woke up this morning with "Goodness of God" going through my mind. God is so, so good! He is the best Daddy a person could ever have. I feel so blessed to be His daughter. Last evening Doug and I went out to the beach for a couple hours. It was so relaxing. He took a nap and I read a bit. We took a walk and people watched. Earlier in the day he took me for another trip to the DMV before we worked at the church. The DMV trip was mentally taxing and the church was physical work. I was so ready for some beach time and praised God for it. While there I had a phone call from a distraught church member and a text from another one. I thanked God for today's technology that keeps me connected even when away from home/office. We didn't get to see the sunset in it's glory due to the phone call but we still got to see a glimpse of it. Once again I thanked God for another blessing in the day. When we got home, I thanked God for leftovers to heat up before turning in for the night. This morning I thanked Him for eight hours of sleep. It seems like my body is still playing catch-up from all the trips to Ohio over the last few months. The emotional times can play havoc on my physical body. Every day I thank God for bringing Doug into my life at the perfect time. Before going to bed last night he was in the freezer getting out what he was going to make for us to eat today. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to have him in my life caring for me. I would have to say though being cared is just one aspect of my new life I enjoy. Our conversations about the Bible  and him praying over me are the best. Last night when we got our chairs set-up at the beach he grabbed my hands and prayed the most beautiful prayer thanking God for giving us a couple hours there to 'stop and smell the roses' which blessed me in abundance. I truly believe when we live a life of gratefulness we will receive more blessings. It does no one, including ourselves, any good to grumble and complain. When we look for things to be grateful for, we will realize God is in the midst of the 'good' and the 'bad' times in life. He is there for us at all time but sometimes we get in the way of Him being able to love us through 'tough' times. We become self-centered which takes away from Him. I am so thankful for the words to "Goodness of God" which remind me to stay focused on Him...

I love You, Lord
Oh Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

Some days are harder than others to get through yet praising Him is the best way to live. I miss my Momma so much. I miss the phone calls that included laughter and praying. When Doug and I were talking about the holidays last night, it hit me I no longer have Momma and her house to gather with my boys and their families. So, so many changes in life. Some are wonderful and others are hard to deal with. Thankfully God is with me every step of every day. He sends me reminders such as Psalm 113 to praise Him. This Psalm was one Jesus and His disciples probably sang on the night of Passover. The repetitiveness in this Psalm was the Hebrew way to emphasize things. In this instance the Psalmist was emphasizing God is worthy of continual praise. That means we need to praise Him in the 'good' and the 'bad' times in life. When we praise Him in this manner, we will soon realize nothing is greater than God. There is no hurt on this earth that cannot be soothed by God. There is no problem faced that God does not already have the solution. Woo hoo! This knowledge gives such freedom in life. It empowers us to not just get through the 'tough' days but to glorify Him through them.

Dear Jesus, Thank You for all Doug and I accomplished yesterday and for our time at the beach last evening! Thank You for the way You are going to go before us today with what we want to get accomplished! Father, I pray we will not miss any opportunity You have for us to be Your hands and feet. Cleanse us so You can fill us. May You be seen/heard through our words, actions, attitude, and thoughts. I pray those going through 'tough' days will realize the freedom found in praising You. Thank You for being My Praise Maker! Amen.

Psalm 50; Romans 12, 15; Philippians 1; Ephesians 1 - "My Jesus"

I woke up this morning with the words to "My Jesus" going through my mind. Anne Wilson wrote this song as a tribute to the way her brother lived his life. Before his passing he was one who lived out his love for God. It reminds me of the sermon series on being the hands and feet of Jesus.

He makes a way where there ain't no way
Rises up from an empty grave
Ain't no sinner that He can't save
Let me tell you 'bout my Jesus
His love is strong and His grace is free
And the good news is I know that He
Can do for you what He's done for me
Let me tell you 'bout my Jesus
And let my Jesus change your life

The knowledge of these words is priceless for those who have accepted Jesus into their heart and live for Him. Last night as I was praying God told me to read Psalm 50. It gives direction on how we are to live for God. We will all be accountable to God on the day of judgement. We all have choices to make and the choices we make will determine if we spend eternity in heaven or hell. Matthew Henry writes, Happy are those who come into the covenant of grace, by faith in the Redeemer's atoning sacrifice, and show the sincerity of their love by fruits of righteousness. In verses seven through fifteen of Psalm 50 the Psalmist shows how God doesn't want the sacrifices of the Old Testament or the works of today. He desires obedience to Him. Verses fourteen and fifteen read in The Passion TranslationWhy don’t you bring me the sacrifices I desire? Bring me your true and sincere thanks, and show your gratitude by keeping your promises to me, the Most High. Honor me by trusting in me in your day of trouble. Cry aloud to me, and I will be there to rescue you. Matthew Henry writes: We must acknowledge him in all our ways, depend upon his wisdom, power, and goodness, and refer ourselves wholly to him, and so give him glory. Thus must we keep up communion with God; meeting him with prayers under trials, and with praises in deliverances. I love the words prayers under trials and with praises in deliverances. Paul reminds us in several scripture to pray. He gave us multiple examples of how he prayed. Ephesians 1 shows how he prayed for the Ephesians constantly, Romans 1 shows how he prayed for the Romans at all time. The book of Romans is full of his encouragement to pray and praise. Romans 12:12 reads, Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Chapter fifteen verse thirteen reads, May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. This verse goes along with Psalm 50 in showing the importance of living a life filled with faith and trust. As we live such a life the Holy Spirit will empower us so we can live in obedience to God. Paul's prayers for the Philippians found in chapter one, verses nine through eleven are ones all followers of Christ should have for all people. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. The end of Psalm 50 tells us we will need to turn away from evil and live a life of righteousness while on this earth so we can live for eternity with Him. The way to live such a life is by following Paul's words in drawing deeper in love with God. Matthew Henry writes: Man's chief end is to glorify God: whoso offers praise, glorifies him, and his spiritual sacrifices shall be accepted. We must praise God, sacrifice praise, put it into the hands of the Priest, our Lord Jesus, who is also the altar: we must be fervent in spirit, praising the Lord. Let us thankfully accept God's mercy, and endeavour to glorify him in word and deed. I praise Him for the way He brings scripture and songs together to speak to me. I praise Him for His love that He lavishes down upon me every day. I strive to live a life pleasing to Him and desire to share such a life with all I meet.

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the blessings of yesterday with the accomplishment at the DMV, Doug being with me as we visited Neiderhiser's, and our time out with Billy, Sierra, and the kids! Thank You for the blessings ahead today! Cleanse me so You can fill me to overflowing with more of You. May You ooze out of my words, thoughts, attitude, and actions. I pray Your peace over many going through difficult days. Thank You for being My Jesus! Amen.
